Former two-time PBR World Champion, Jess Lockwood, has announced a radical change in his career. Starting next season, the young bull riding talent will dedicate himself exclusively to PRCA events, the most traditional rodeo organization in the United States.
His official debut will be this weekend at the NILE ProRodeo in Billings, Montana. The event, one of the most renowned in the state, already counts towards the 2025 PRCA season standings.
“The passion for riding is still here, but I needed a new challenge. The PRCA represents this new chapter. I’m excited to compete in rodeos and earn a spot in the NFR,” said Lockwood.
Known for his skill and precocity, Lockwood has won historic titles in the PBR, such as youngest world champion and two-time world champion. However, in recent years, the athlete has faced a series of serious injuries that have kept him out of the arena for long periods.
After recovering from his latest injury, Lockwood attempted a return to the PBR, but the physical aftereffects still prevented him from reaching the level of performance that made him famous. The decision to move to the PRCA comes as an attempt to start over and seek new goals.
“My initial goal is to secure a spot in the NFR. But the PRCA world title is the big dream,” declared Lockwood, who could become one of the few athletes to win the top title in the two major rodeo organizations in the world.
