One of the worst feelings in the life of a bull riding athlete is the one where you think, “I could have done better.” When you easily get thrown off a bull and see it return to the pen, you have an overwhelming urge to shout and ride it again right then and there (you’re sure you won’t fall, at least not as easily as the first time).
This is the moment when you need to work on your mindset. You shouldn’t dwell too long on the bull that bucked you off, as it will drain your energy and make you make mistakes again on the next bull.
How about focusing solely on your next bull?
Leave behind all your falls, don’t beat yourself up over them. After all, in the life of a bull rider, defeats are often greater than victories. Concentrate only on your next bull, as it is where you have the opportunity to make a difference, only on your next bull.
No matter how many bulls you need to ride to win a tournament, you’ll only earn the championship buckle if you can ride well on your next bull and so on. Therefore, yesterday’s “bull” no longer matters to you, and tomorrow’s “bull” depends on your performance today.
“Focus on your next bull,” channel all your energy into this bull as it can take you to the next level, just as we climb a staircase one step at a time. In rodeo, it’s the same thing, “one bull at a time.”
Start thinking about this today, put it into practice, and then come back here and tell me how it went for you.
